What to Look For When Hiring the Right Roofing Contractor

Planning a roof replacement can be tricky if you’re not sure about who to hire to get the job done. You’ll want to hire someone who listens to what you want for your roof, so it helps to do your research and ask potential contractors about their previous experience in roofing jobs similar to yours. However, asking for their expertise alone won’t be enough to determine whether they have your best interest in mind when building your roof. As one of the top residential and  commercial roofing contractors  in the area, Larry Walty Roofing shares their insight on what you need to look for:

Check Their Credentials

Most roofing contractors will have their business licenses readily available as proof that their business in the state is operating legally. While it does help to check their website as well for their credentials, you’ll feel more at ease if you’re personally presented with their business license. If you hire unlicensed contractors, it can get back at you later on during the renovation process and after it gets completed.

Ask if They Have Insurance

Residential and  commercial roof repair  contractors should also have at least two types of insurance. Without this, you’ll be forced to shoulder the expenses should an incident happen during your roof installation project. They should have general liability insurance, which covers the expenses in case your property gets damaged during the roof installation. They should also have employee’s compensation as it takes care of the expenses involving an accident or injury during work.

Ask If They’ll Remove Your Old Roof

This is important as some roofing contractors may choose to overlay your old roof with new shingles to save time and money. This won’t be beneficial in the long run, because you won’t know if you have damage beneath the roof such as leaks, rotten wood, and other kinds of deterioration. The extra weight from your old shingles will also strain your roofing structure, which can lead to sagging and eventually a collapse over time. To prevent this from happening, make sure your hired contractor removes your old roof before installation!
