It’s Better to Fully Replace Your Roof Deck; Here’s Why

Larry Walty II • June 22, 2021

Most homeowners won’t think much about their roofs unless an issue arises and needs to be addressed. The deck, in particular, isn’t a visible part of your roofing system but is still prone to wear and tear over time. For instance, a recent storm may have caused minor damage to your deck, but it won’t be seen unless inspected by residential and  commercial roofing contractors. If left untreated, the minor damage won’t be seen until it spreads to other areas of your roof, which can become costly later on!

But if there’s rot found in your roof deck, it’s recommended that you should get it fully replaced instead. To know the signs of damage, Larry Walty Roofing explains what you need to know:

Telltale Signs to Look Out For

  • Water Damage  – This is probably one of the most common signs that indicate a damaged roof deck. This can be seen as stains on your walls and ceilings as well as peeling wallpaper or paint. If you check your attic, look for darker water stains that are affecting the trusses and rafters.
  • Roof Sag  – This is a more visible sign that can be seen on your roofline. This means the inner wooden structure of your roof has already been waterlogged for a long time and has been warped as a result.

Why You Should Get a Full Replacement

Residential and  commercial roof repair  contractors know that repairing a damaged roof deck won’t eliminate the problem. Of course, it may not be necessary if the damage is still minor. But if you want to get rid of the rot and damage completely to ensure a long-lasting roof, make sure to get it fully replaced instead.

Remember fixing the damage on your own isn’t recommended, even if it’s hardly significant. A rotted roof deck requires professional repair, and you’ll only risk voiding the warranty if you attempt to do it yourself. It’s also safer to let the experts handle it for you!
