Tips on Protecting the Exterior and Garden During Roof Work

Larry Walty II • October 2, 2020

Whether you’re talking about replacing a few shingles or complete replacements by residential and  commercial roofing contractors , roof work tends to involve a lot of debris and heavy stuff moving about. This can pose a risk of damage not just to your home’s exterior, but also to the garden and other areas around the home.

Check for Existing Damage

The last thing you want is wrongly blaming a contractor for damage that they didn’t cause in the first place. That being said, the first thing you should do is take a quick walk around your home and look for signs of pre-existing damage. Take note of these or have these fixed before work on your roof begins.

Get Those Tarps

According to residential and  commercial roof repair  experts, tarps are your best friend when it comes to protecting surfaces around the house. Cover the walls underparts of the roof where most of the work is expected. This will greatly minimize or even completely prevent the number of scratches that could ruin your siding when the contractors start working on your roof.

Prioritize Delicate Areas

Some parts of the area around your home deserve more protection than others. For example, a gravelly area around your house is fine as it is but debris falling on a vegetable garden or a nearby fishpond could be bad news. Depending on how much of an area is at risk of getting damaged by falling debris, you might have to switch from simple tarp sheets to fine nets that can cover a much greater area.

Prep Some Trash Bins

Having trash bins placed near the worksite goes a long way in preventing damage to your exteriors simply because there will be fewer things lying around in the open. Furthermore, it also helps the contractors clean up faster when  roof repair  is finished and they have to haul the old, damaged parts away.
